When transformed into his shape-shifted form, Roland takes the form of a 15-foot, one-and-a-half-ton great white shark (carcharodon carcharias).
Roland was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Maria Latore in April 1997. His step-father, Salvatore Leone (unacknowledged at the time) was the Don of the Leone Crime Family. His biological father, Claude Speed, was with his crime companion and girlfriend Catalina, traveling across the nation during Roland's first four years. After an unsuspected turn of events in October 2001, Claude reunited with Maria, retired from his criminal career, and Roland finally had the family he always wanted.
Roland's family life abruptly ended in October 2006 when his parents were found both shot to death at their condominium apartment in Boston's Financial District, with no trace of evidence, not even leftover bullets. After the funeral, Roland disappeared, living the attic of a Harvard University building. Being friendless, the city was Roland's only companion. To survive, Roland had to scrap up money from the streets to trade on the stock market.
